Simply Morzine activities
At Simply Morzine, we have designated every week throughout the school summer holidays to our immensely popular and unique alpine summer family activity holidays. We think there is no comparable family activity holiday the French Alps, France or even Europe.
A major reason why our summer adventure holidays for families are so successful is because of our flexible and tailor-made Simply Morzine organised activity programme. An extended half-day’s mountain biking tailored to the ability level of you and your family/group. Learn new skills as a beginner or develop your technique as an improver in the company of our highly experienced local French guide, using ski lifts to explore different areas of the Portes du Soleil according to the level of the group.
An enjoyable and rewarding day’s mountain biking (VTT in French, MTB in English), designed for everyone who is confident and well-balanced on a bike. This is downhill alpine mountain biking and very different from the off-road biking you might be used to back home. Mountain biking in the Alps is a challenging activity requiring a helmet and body armour (elbow and knee pads). Even the green beginner trails (mostly smooth and not too steep) feature some bermed corners, tree roots and rocky sections!
For those who are new to the world of MTB, sampling this great sport in the 'European mecca of mountain biking' is an unforgettable experience. This is an opportunity to develop skills and gain confidence on the VTT trails above Morzine, amongst some of the most beautiful alpine scenery imaginable.
A more challenging outing is available for those with more experience. This is a chance to improve, extend your skills and test yourself. You'll tackle some of the tricky blue and red trails in the Portes du Soleil. With narrow bermed corners, jumps, tree roots and rocky sections, this is not for the faint-hearted and more technical than most trails in the UK!

With Franck our local guide, this is an introduction to the sensations of rock climbing, but without the technical difficulty and with the security of being permanently attached to special iron rails. Via Ferrata is in fact the Italian term given to climbing with fixed aids: wire ropes, pegs, ladders, rungs and bridges. You are equipped with a safety harness, helmet and safety rope. There are various routes for different levels of difficulty, all with jaw-dropping views. It's more of a rock traverse, sometimes up to 200m above the ground at the highest point. Simply amazing!

As an alternative to eating at a Morzine restaurant, we highly recommend a memorable, unique evening high up in the mountains, enjoying a traditional Raclette and fantastic hospitality at a local family’s alpine chalet.
We will drive you from your accommodation up the Col du Joux Plan (a famous Tour de France route) to the chalet at la Rosta. After a short walk across alpine pasture land we are welcomed by the Rosset family, who treat us to a superb Savoyard mountain meal, soft drinks/wine and not forgetting their home-brewed eau-de-vie! On a clear evening there are stunning views, including over to Mont Blanc at sunset.
Once the evening draws to a close we take the short walk back to the minibus using head torches and listening to the cow bells. You will be driven back to Morzine, so an excellent opportunity to relax, eat, drink and be merry over what is a truly unforgettable evening for all ages that is exclusive to Simply Morzine.

Minimum requirements: Raft: Age 10+ (8+ for strong swimmers in boat with parents). Hot-Dog and Hydro: Strictly age 14+.
N.B. rafting for younger children aged 8+ may also be available (children only; no adults).
This ‘Baptême’ descent depends on our rafting company’s guide availability and minimum numbers.
Must be able to swim 25 metres in light clothes and not be frightened of going underwater.
You will need to bring: Swimming gear ('Speedo' type trunks obligatory for pool!), towel, jumper/fleece, sun cream.
The morning is spent on a 1 hour ‘Classique’ raft descent down the river Dranse, some 30 minutes drive down the Vallée d’Aulps towards Lake Geneva. Your instructor demonstrates basic paddling techniques in the 8-man raft and issues you with a life jacket, paddle, wetsuit, helmet and shoes. The Classique is designed for all the family, and incorporates some lively rapids. It is great fun and very much a team effort. Our rafting company, AN Rafting, is one of the most experienced in Europe.
Alternatively if you have rafted before, you may wish to try the ‘Spéciale’ descent (ask for prices), hot-dogging or hydrospeeding instead.
- The ‘Spéciale’ is the same as the Classique descent but starts a little further up the river and takes approximately an extra 20 minutes.
If you enjoy the ‘Classique’ rafting you can book hot-dogging, hydrospeeding or the ‘Integrale’ (2-hour raft descent on some grade 4 rapids) for later in the holiday or next year!
If rafting isn't your thing or you have younger children, why not visit 'Les Gorge du Pont du Diable (Devil’s Bridge Gorge)' as a non-rafting alternative before joining back up with the rafters to head to Evian. Is this a bridge made by the devil himself – or just a natural rock fall? Please note that entrance to the Gorge is extra (payable direct). The path also consists of steps and is not suitable for buggies.
After rafting (or the Gorge visit), we continue to the beautiful lakeside spa town of Evian-les-Bains, where we spend the afternoon at a water park in glorious setting besides Lake Geneva. There’s an Olympic pool, children’s pools, flume and diving boards into the lake. Pedalos, waterskiing and wakeboarding are also sometimes available.

Unique to Simply Morzine, this is a fun and informative day’s walking above Morzine and Les Gets. Lunchtime is a memorable highlight, with a traditionally home-cooked Savoyard Tartiflette (IN OUR VIEW THE BEST IN THE ALPS, washed down with copious amounts of wine and home-brewed eau-de-vie!) at a remote alpine chalet. This day is aimed at all the family, children and adults alike, designed both as an enjoyable walk and as a discovery of the flora, fauna, culture and cuisine of the local area.
Our guide Guillaume Rosset is passionate about the local Chablais region that surrounds Morzine. The Rosset’s are an original local ‘Morzinois’ family and owners of our local ski shop Felix Ski. In winter Guillaume is an Ecole du Ski Français instructor and in summer, a highly-respected, qualified walking and mountain bike guide.
In our minibuse(s) we drive to the start of the walk at ‘Les Clares’ above the far-end of Les Gets. From here up to our alpine chalet at la Rosta there is a gradual ascent, along a remote forest path via la Chapelle de Jacquicourt.
At la Rosta we are welcomed to the family’s chalet d’alpage, where we will be treated to a simply delicous mountain meal.
After lunch we complete a circular route around the edge of the ski area to return to Morzine. The descent (or wobble back if you have been drinking the eau de vie!) takes in a variety of terrain and alpine landscapes including alpine meadows, twisting forest paths, lakes and streams.
Approximately 9 miles / 4 hours 30 minutes total walking time.
