Mountain biking
The Portes du Soleil area is the spiritual
home of mountain biking in the Alps and is quite simply world famous
for cross-country, freeride and downhill MTB (VTT in French). Its interlinked
lift system allows mountain bikers to cover lots of different trails
across all levels of riding, from steep and technical World-Cup level
downhills to more gentle cross-country journeys through incredible scenery.
Overall, there are approximately 380 km of
VTT sign posted paths, 24 lifts and 10 downhill tracks. For keen cross-country
bikers, the ‘Grand Tour des Portes du Soleil’ is an absolute
must. Major events are held here each summer, including the Mountain
Bike World Cup, European championships and French national championships.
We are on hand to advise on suitable trails
for all standards, and can book qualified local guides. Quality bikes
can be hired locally. Click here for
the Portes du Soleil trail map.
Via ferrata
An introduction to the sensations of rock climbing,
but without the technical difficulty and with the security of being permanently
attached to special iron rails. Via Ferrata is in fact the Italian term
given to climbing with fixed aids: wire ropes, pegs, ladders, rungs and
bridges. You are equipped with a safety harness, helmet and safety rope.
There are various routes for different levels of difficulty. It's more
of a rock traverse, sometimes up to 200m above the ground at the highest
point.
Rock climbing
Local instructors will help you to meet the
challenges of the area's cliff faces. Suitable for all levels of expertise.
