ALPINE WALKING HOLIDAYS

If your ideal holiday takes you strolling through glorious alpine landscapes then Simply Morzine's walking holidays are for you.

Whether you take exclusive occupancy of the chalet with your own group or share the company of fellow walkers, you will discover the hidden treasures of the beautiful Haute-Savoie Alps.

Peace and tranquillity, towering mountain peaks perpetually topped with snow, serene lakes, old villages, gorges, pine forests, and grazing pastures are all varieties of its landscape.

We are passionate walkers ourselves and you don't have to be a mountaineer to book. Our holidays are aimed at those who enjoy walking for pleasure in good company, with frequent pauses en route for photos and refreshment! Many of the lifts operate during the summer making access into the high Alps so much easier.

Each accompanied walk lasts some three to six hours, with a lengthy lunch stop. The only equipment you will need are stout walking shoes, a small rucksack, waterproofs and a camera - you won't want to forget a single moment!

Walks can be easy strolls, medium trails or more difficult treks. Some of the walks start directly from or very close to our chalets. We are very flexible and can tailor-make the walks to suit your groups' exact requirements, from easy walks through alpine pastures to high glacier trekking with local guides around the Mont Blanc massif.

Alternatively, we have an extensive collection of maps and routes in resort to help you plan your own walks, many of which could include a night in a mountain refuge.

The following are a selection of our most popular walks, graded in increasing order of difficulty:

Walk 1

A leisurely day's gentle walking from Morzine to Lake Montriond and back, along alpine trails and forest paths. Enjoy the beautiful flora, rivers and villages of the Portes du Soleil. Time to relax and take in the spectacular mountain scenery. At the lake there are restaurants, a safe swimming area, canoe hire etc. You can return to Morzine by foot or by minibus. Approximately 4 miles one way, 8 miles return.

Walk 2

By minibus we pass over a spectacular mountain pass with wonderful views of Mont Blanc to visit the protected village of Samoëns and its famous alpine gardens. From Samoëns we move on to the Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval National Park for an afternoon's easy-guided walk of approximately 5 miles beneath some of the most spectacular scenery in the Alps. There is time to relax and for the brave, to have a swim in one of the bracing plunge pools!

Walk 3

Our journey by minibus via the Col du Corbier allows us to access, with a relatively short ascent, some remote and magnificent scenery around the Mont de Grange wildlife reserve. Around 500 chamois live here, along with mouflons and red deer. From the summit you see a huge alpine panorama as far as Italy & central Switzerland. A variety of medium walks and distances are possible from our starting point. From 5 to 10 miles depending on route taken.

Walk 4

We take you by minibus along the Vallée de la Manche to the Lac des Mines d’Or, our departure point for the ascent to the Swiss border. Our route follows a path used by the French Resistance in World War II, climbing up to the Col de Cou at an altitude of 2,000m. We cross the border into Switzerland and visit the Col de Bretolet, which is an important passage for migrating birds. We return back to the Mines d’Or for a well-earned picnic or restaurant lunch. You can return to Morzine by minibus or by foot, along a path following the source of the river Dranse. Approximately 5 miles back to the starting point, or 10 miles if you walk back to Morzine.

Walk 5

On this walk we return to the village of Samoëns, but this time on foot along the famous GR5 long distance footpath. We pass over the Col de Golese at an altitude of 1700m via forest trails, mountain paths and alpine pastures. The Col links la Vallée d’Aulps with la Vallée Verte, and affords wonderful views of Switzerland and the Mont Blanc. Our minibuses will be waiting for us in Samoëns for the drive back to Morzine. The walk has a similar ascent to the Col de Cou but is further in distance, approximately 12-14 miles in total.

Walk 6

This is a challenging but exciting day's trekking for serious walkers. This walk lasts approximately nine hours and the steep route takes us high up into les Dents Blanches (White Teeth) to the snow line at an altitude of 2,800m. A long ascent with some scrambling on a ridge with fairly rough conditions underfoot. You are rewarded with some stunning scenery, including on a clear day Mont Blanc. Approximately 9 miles.
